The life simulation Life by You will be released later this year on Steam and aims to compete with EA’s long-established Sims series, and in a European way: Violence is taboo, nudity is allowed.
What’s up with the nudity? The king of life simulations, The Sims, has always relied on a proven solution when it comes to nudity: whether in the shower or during “WooHoo”, a mosaic filter is used.
If you want to see more of your Sims for whatever reason, you have to rely on mods. Not so in Life by You, which allows you to admire your characters in all their digital glory.
Life by You wants to be more adult than the competition
How does Life by You handle the topic of nudity? The new simulator from the Swedish strategy nerds at Paradox Interactive is said to have the option to show nudity right from the start. By default, it is supposed to be disabled, thus giving players the freedom to choose how much they really want to see.
The justification for why Life By You comes with this important feature is as simple as it is brilliant: after all, we are not in prudish America! Creative Lead Rod Humble told the news site Axios:
We are a European company. Our complexes all revolve around violence. There is no violence in this game. But it comes with nudity.
The decision to allow nudity in the game fits with the more adult direction that Life By You wants to take. Serious topics are also included: the Paradox team is still undecided on how to handle the difficult topic of abortion.
Humble says:
I wanted the emotional core of the game to be more adult and to respect the intelligence of the players.
This is supported by the fact that, unlike the “Simlish” of The Sims, the characters will speak a human language.
Although no mods are needed for nudity, Life by You advertises its high modability and is said to offer players numerous ways to influence the game.
When can I see my non-Sims naked? Life by You is set to enter Early Access on September 12, 2023, and will then be available on Steam and in the Epic Games Store.
