Bye Sweet Carol will be released next year on Steam and already impresses in the trailer with a beautiful and heartfelt concept. With graphics that could be described as almost old-fashioned, the game could already enchant the child in your heart – especially if you miss the animated films of the 90s.
What kind of game is it? This horror adventure is inspired by many animated films and relies on the old technique of hand-drawn animations.
The game is announced for 2024 on PC/Steam, PS4/PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox.
This old-fashioned yet loving style is especially showcased in the game’s reveal trailer (via Youtube), which we have embedded here for you:
In the meantime, there is a gameplay video showing you alpha footage. And here, too, the game presents itself with loving, hand-drawn animations.
Bye Sweet Carol tells the dark story of the young woman Lana Benton, who is accompanied by you through the fascinating world of Corolla. She finds herself in a magical garden after being driven there by the eerie Mr. Kyn – also known as “Old Hat” – to face mysterious creatures.
Lana’s story takes place in the early 1900s and begins in the orphanage “Bunny Hall.” When she finds several letters there from someone calling themselves “French Guy,” the young woman makes a decision. She wants to follow the last trace of her peer Carole Simmons, who allegedly escaped from the orphanage.
But now the building is inhabited by wild rabbits capable of opening portals to another dimension, thus granting access to the realm of Corolla.
To find your way through the game and the story, you must continuously transform into a rabbit. You use the abilities of both your human and your new animal form to overcome the obstacles that stand in your way.
As if Walt Disney was reborn
What are the reactions? The reactions in the comments on Youtube are filled with enthusiasm. However, since the reveal trailer did not show any gameplay, many commenters were also cautious.
But especially with the charming graphic style, the first trailer was able to convince players:
- gerygery7 writes: ‘This reminds me so much of the movies of my childhood. It looks fantastic and original: I can’t wait to learn more about it.’
- Bigmcd3 thinks: ‘As if Walt Disney was reborn and said […] let me show you how it’s done.’
- lightingboltzero8575 writes: ‘I always wanted a classic Disney horror game. This looks really impressive […]’
