A new game on Steam appears to resemble Dorfromantik at first glance. However, you play as a nearly divine cat that builds its own world to bring back the extinct humanity.
What game are we talking about here? Nekokami: Relaxing World Builder is essentially what the name promises. A relaxing building game on Steam, which at first glance reminds of the successful German building game Dorfromantik from 2022.
The release is announced for the second quarter of 2024. Currently, you can already get a taste of the demo version Nekokami: Internship.
What can you expect? Nekokami definitely reminds of Dorfromantik in terms of gameplay. Here, too, you need to combine different hexagons to gradually build a new landscape. You will encounter various tasks and challenges to fulfill.
Unlike in Dorfromantik, however, in Nekokami you take on the role of a cat. Yes, you play as a cat in space, building new places on different planets. In the future, cats are the rulers of the universe and have taken it upon themselves to create and manage a new home for the extinct humans.
To fulfill your important task, you must earn the respect of the Kami – the nature spirits. After all, you are just a simple architect who is allowed to borrow the powerful abilities of these spirits to create new worlds in a god-like manner.
Graphically, the game aims to impress with a hand-drawn style. Everything is somewhat based on actual architecture from world history and various cultures. In the video, you could see deserts and pyramids alongside smaller huts, forests, and rivers.
Unlike in Dorfromantik, interaction with other cats will also play a role in Nekokami. You can already see in the video how you communicate with your colleagues, receiving tasks or information from them.
It is also interesting how the Kami are integrated into the gameplay. For example, in the video, you can see that it starts to rain when you earn the respect of a certain Kami. This rain then creates lakes and rivers in your landscape.
Aside from the targeted planning of your landscape, this aspect brings an interesting change to the genre.
Steam: New building game wants you to experience your cities instead of just looking at them
