The MMORPG Ares: Rise of Guardians is set to be released this year by publisher Kakao Games. In an interview, the developers reveal interesting details and big plans. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What kind of game is Ares? The MMORPG comes from the successful publisher Kakao Games (ArcheAge, Odin: Valhalla Rising) and the developer team of Second Dive. It is set in a science fiction world and resembles titles like Destiny or Anthem.
You will mainly be in various battle suits, which are currently divided into four classes. With them, you will travel and fight on Earth, the Moon, or even Mars. More planets are set to follow in the future.
So far, over 2 million people have pre-registered for the game. At least in Korea, it is set to be released on July 25, 2023. A release in other regions of the world is planned but will not take place simultaneously.
Aside from that, Ares: Rise of Guardians aims to impress with the following features:
- Cross-play on PC and smartphones, with the PC receiving its own launcher
- Fast and extensive movement system, where flying and combat in the air play a big role
- Random events in the open world
- Raids for up to 30 players
- Various vehicles that you should be able to use in the world
- Even in the Korean market, Pay2Win should be significantly reduced; the game should also be a lot of fun without spending money
- The MMORPG also impresses with strong graphics and unique classes

New interview shows that the developers have high hopes for Ares
What new information is there? In an interview with the Korean press, the developers answered questions. During this, there were some new details that could raise hope but also make Western players skeptical.
Particularly interesting was the question of what financial result the publisher hopes to achieve from Ares. In response, Kakao’s CEO, Lee Si Woo, said: “It’s hard to say something about the planned results, but our goal is to release the best MMORPG in 2023.”
However, he later made it clear that we in the West would probably have to be patient. The plans for globalization will only be addressed once the game is successful in Korea: “The domestic market comes first,” Woo emphasized in the interview.
Additionally, some fans might not like that an auto-play feature was confirmed during the conversation. However, the developers emphasize at this point that there are still plenty of content that requires manual input and strong cooperation between players.
What else is positive? Aside from the strong statement to want to release the best MMORPG of this year, there are still some details that stand out positively. The developers report that the game has changed significantly since the tests in 2022.
They emphasize that they listen to fan feedback and thus, among other things, improved and optimized the controls with mouse and keyboard.
Furthermore, comfort features have been added, such as the ability to turn off effects from other players. They want to maintain the colorful and eye-catching look of abilities without jeopardizing balance in large battles, the developers explain.
