Seekers of Skyveil is a cooperative role-playing game and originally started as a PvPvE mode of Project Skies. Ultimately, the developers decided to make it a standalone game.
As PvPvE fantasy extraction RPG
, the game aims to offer you a unique gaming experience. How it succeeds will only be known once it has overcome a few steps. The game is being developed by former developers from Riot, Blizzard, and BioWare.
Because today, on October 20, 2023, the game enters the alpha playtest phase, for which you can register on the official website (playseekers.com).
In a first trailer, you get a glimpse of the style and gameplay:
What kind of game is this? In Seekers of Skyveil, you work in a group of three players together, exploring a fantasy world and searching for numerous treasures and epic loot.
Choose from six different characters to effectively support your team with their unique abilities and playstyles.
There are already more detailed information about four of them:
- Kumu: This ancient protector is strong and robust. He draws his power from the
Everbloom
and provides protection and defense for his team. Kumu appears to be a tank or support role. - Zuraya: As an experienced warrior in tune with the wind, Zuraya is suited for close combat with her light and agile movements.
- Joon: This rebel takes a dramatic and aggressive approach. He specializes in long-range combat, raining down bullets on his enemies.
- Lily: The magical support among the characters, controlling the battlefield with breathtaking but deadly ice forms. Lily seems to deal good damage and be a strong ranged fighter.
Not everyone understands the transition from pure ARPG to extraction game
In your trio team, you fight against magical creatures, powerful bosses, and hostile seekers who want to stop you on your way through the game world.
During your rounds through the fantasy world, you are time-limited and must always reach a specific extraction point to escape safely and return to the city. There is always the risk of losing your loot if you happen to die.
What are the reactions? Many users who left their comments via YouTube seem to have been following the development of the game for a while. The reactions to the trailer are quite varied.
Some users, including fennk5386, complain that this has little to do with the originally announced ARPG. This user wishes the developers good luck, which they apparently now need.
rippeh8942 also hoped for an MMO with an open world and is disappointed by the similarity to League of Legends.
Others are excited about the developers’ shift to the extraction game. For example, ten.kenobi states that it looks like an interesting approach for this genre.
User Zazzaro703 even writes that it’s good to try something new in the ARPG genre, as the market is currently full of simple ARPGs.
