The upcoming game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will be released in Germany and the rest of the world this year after a successful launch in China. Find out everything that is currently known about the game and where you can finally get it.
What is Harry Potter: Magic Awakened? This is a game that mixes elements of MMOs and collectible card games like Hearthstone. You play – 10 years after the end of the last book – a student starting as a first-year at Hogwarts.
You can customize your character freely and even participate in the ritual that assigns you to your house. Later, you will become involved in a mysterious plot concerning a missing student.
By the way, Magic Awakened is being developed by NetEase, who have also worked on Diablo Immortal.
What are the features? In the game, you explore Hogwarts, speak with residents (including official characters from the books) and engage in duels casting spells at each other. This happens by collecting spells in the form of cards. There are reportedly over 80 available at launch.
These include classics like “Expelliarmus” or “Wingardium Leviosa”. You can also combine the cards to utilize special effects.
But the game is not only about card usage; positioning your characters is also important, which resembles a turn-based strategy game.
Other features include:
- PvP duels in the duel club with 1vs1 or 2vs2 matchups
- An alchemy system where you brew powerful potions
- Fight against legendary magical creatures, like the “Hippogriff” or the “Hungarian Horntail”
- A Quidditch mini-game where you zoom around with your broom and try to score points
- A cute comic graphic style, as well as the official music from the films. The game is being developed under the official license.
After success in China, the global release is coming soon
When will the game be released? Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was already released in fall 2021 in China and other Asian countries. It was apparently very successful and even exceeded expectations. Over 22 million USD in revenue was recorded in the first week (via GameWorldObserver). The game immediately shot to the top of the charts in China and also performed well in other Asian countries.
Therefore, it is now 2022 time to aim for a global release. The developers have not specified an exact date, but there is an option for pre-registration. Therefore, the release should not take too long.
What is the deal with pre-registration? There is already an official page for Magic Awakened (also in German), where you can register for the game. There are also milestones listed that will unlock additional content.
500,000 registrations have already been reached, which gives you a special broom model. Further milestones will be reached at 1, 2, and 5 million registered players.
On which platforms will the game be released? Magic Awakened will be released for mobile platforms. So far, the game has only been officially announced for Android operating systems. However, an announcement for iOS is expected soon.
