Today, on December 2nd, Century: Age of Ashes has been released for PC on Steam. Just a few hours after release, the game was able to attract thousands of fans and receive good reviews. MeinMMO explains what Century is all about.
What kind of game is it? In Century: Age of Ashes, you play as a dragon rider who competes against other dragon riders with their flying companions.
It is a PvP game in the style of War Thunder or the failed World of Warplanes, only with dragons instead of airplanes. The game is played in rounds and teams, ranging from small 3vs3 matches to 6vs6vs6 battles. Century offers different game modes at release:
- Slaughter: Kill opponents for points. As you do, your bounty increases. Opponents with a higher bounty give more points.
- War Loot: Steal gold from NPCs and opponents while protecting your own.
- Survival: A type of team deathmatch with limited respawns and revives for 18 players in 3 teams.
- Gates of Fire: Acquire a flag and fly through gates in the arena to earn points.
The dragons and riders are classified into classes. You have three classes to choose from, which should differ significantly from one another:
- Wind Keepers: Something like tanks or protectors
- Marauders: The equivalent of a fighter plane for pursuit
- Phantoms: Can camouflage and set traps
You should be able to customize your dragons and rider. Skins available for purchase in the shop change their appearance. Tanks, saddles, and more are available. These are purely cosmetic changes. You can find Century: Age of Ashes here on Steam.
“Like a fighter jet game, but with dragons”
How is Century: Age of Ashes received? Just shortly after launch, Century had 9,979 players on Steam, with a downward trend (via SteamDB.com; as of 5:55 PM). It is currently in 2nd place on the trending list. The ratings are “mixed” with 57%, with a total of 217 reviews so far.
The biggest plus according to reviews is the dragons. The gameplay reminds many players of aerial combat games. The game offers fast-paced, action-rich rounds with gripping gameplay.
Even critics praise: “The game is basically like a fighter jet game, but with dragons. Solid graphics and game concept. Good diversity and differences between the classes.” However, performance is still not ideal.
The servers are still unstable, and playing with friends doesn’t always work. Getting into a match takes time, and currently, only Team Deathmatch mode is available.
Another player with over 100 hours in the beta claims the game is worth trying, but he still lacks long-term motivation. According to many reviews, the biggest problem is the faulty servers.
When and where can I play it? Since today, December 2nd, Century: Age of Ashes is available for free on Steam for PC. You can easily download it via the client and play.
If Century: Age of Ashes has not convinced you yet, you can also look forward to one or the other release at the end of 2021 – and the upcoming year is just around the corner:
