In Pokémon GO you can expect some fun for tomorrow, as early finds now reveal the planned April Fool’s joke. We at MeinMMO have looked at how Niantic plans to fool you this April.
What findings are there? Tomorrow, on April 1st, not only can you play little pranks on your friends and family, but there will also traditionally be an April Fool’s event in Pokémon GO where you can expect a lot of fun.
So far, nothing official is known about the upcoming mysterious event, but the PokeMiners have just published a find that shows some early content.
The PokeMiners are a group of data miners. They regularly scour the game code of Pokémon GO to discover new planned content. This allows them to often find new Pokémon, features, or information about research even before a release or event. They then share their findings publicly with other trainers.
However, this data is not official, which is why Niantic can change or even delete it at any time. For this reason, you should consider it with a certain degree of skepticism.
These April Fool’s jokes have been found
As trainer martycochrane reports in his current reddit post, the PokeMiners have found initial information about the upcoming April Fool’s event (via reddit.com). They came across some texts and new stickers related to the Pokémon Ditto, which could indicate a Ditto event.

Ditto would also fit perfectly for April 1st, as the normal-type Pokémon can change its form to take on the shape of other monsters. Thus, it also hides behind other Pokémon, like Gastly or Hypno, outside of such an event.

These are the texts for the event
Based on the texts found, there will presumably be a three-part research, during which Professor Willow obviously talks confusingly most of the time. At first, he says nothing and then uncertainly asks if it really is you.
Later, he tells you that he thinks you transformed into a Ditto: “The next thing I knew, ‘you’ had transformed into a Ditto! Or did I perhaps get that backwards?” Could Professor Willow actually be the Ditto in the end?
Furthermore, there are supposed to be additional quests where you need to catch Ditto, the “Transform Pokémon”. And the name of the event is also now revealed from this data. It is expected to be called “April Fools’ 2-Oh?-22”. The “Oh?” is another hint at Ditto.

In addition, the PokeMiners have found new stickers, which, in addition to the new event stickers for the Community Day with Velursi, also show images related to Ditto:
Further findings from the PokeMiners
In addition to the first content surrounding the April 1st event, the PokeMiners have stumbled upon more interesting data in their search, including about the Rocket event, which is set to start on Sunday, April 3rd. The following has been found (via pokeminers.com):
- a 6-part special research for the Rocket event under the name “Silent Systems”
- in which you are to defeat the grunts, bosses, and Giovanni again and redeem the Crypto Pokémon
- which Pokémon Giovanni will have is not revealed in the data
- there will be a partner research and new badges
- the option to enable and disable third-party advertising has been added
How do trainers find the findings about the April Fool’s event?
In the reddit community, many trainers enjoy the thought that Professor Willow could be a Ditto for the April Fool’s event. So, in the comments under the post, the following joking comments can be found (via reddit.com):
- 21WaterGuy: “Professor Willow with Ditto eyes would give me nightmares”
- RadiantMint24: “I just hope we don’t have to catch Willow in the wild… that would be a bit inhumane…”
- Mandiechama: “What kind of bait do you think Willow will attract? I’m asking for a friend”
