FIFA 19 receives a new title update that does not portray former Wolfsburg player Luiz Gustavo in a good light.
New update brings new faces: On February 12, EA Sports released title update 8 for the PC version of FIFA 19. It will also be released for PS4 and Xbox One in the coming days. The biggest change in the update concerns the player portraits.
Almost 1000 new faces in FIFA 19: According to the patch notes, more than 200 new 2D portraits will be added for players who previously did not have their own portrait. Additionally, more than 700 players, whose images were outdated, will receive more current portraits.
The 2D portraits are the player images seen on the FUT cards.
New card of Luiz Gustavo causes laughter
This is what Gustavo’s previous card looked like: The fresh card of Luiz Gustavo does not flatter the player particularly well. On his old FUT card, he was still clean-shaven, had a neat hairstyle, and looked somewhat straight into the camera:
Luiz Gustavo as “drug addict”: However, on the new picture, he looks quite unfortunate. Currently, he plays in Marseille with a noticeable beard and curly hair – which is why EA likely deemed a portrait update appropriate – yet Luiz Gustavo does not look particularly positive in this image:

This is how the community reacts: On reddit, the new portrait is causing some laughter. Currently, the post about the new Gustavo look is the top thread in the fifa-reddit.
The fans are amused. He now looks like
- a mix of a hobo, a drug addict, and an 80s icon
- the new role of Lando in Star Wars
- the child of Jimi Hendrix and Prince
- Rick James
- someone who kills people for Pablo Escobar.
One user writes that he will now buy him directly. Because he needs Jimi Hendrix on his team. Another says he would finally be happy to pull Gustavo in packs – because he just looks ridiculous.

Patch notes for the new title update
This is changing as well:
- Several jerseys and crests will be updated
- A problem is being fixed where the crests of some teams in the La Liga broadcast were not displayed properly.
- The accessibility settings can now be accessed directly in the FIFA main menu. An icon will be added at the bottom of the screen for this.
- New color blindness settings will be added.
- A new “Player Indicator Size Setting” will also be introduced. This allows you to set how large the symbol above the head of the player you are controlling should be.
