The new MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen will appeal to those who find newer representatives in the genre to be too little MMO. The game will start early access in December on Steam.
Which game are we talking about? We are talking about Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. In a new trailer, the developers announced that the fantasy MMORPG will enter early access on December 13, 2024. Additionally, Steam has been confirmed as a platform for the first time alongside its own launcher.
You can watch the trailer here:
Where does Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen take place? The setting is the high-fantasy world of Terminus. A great war once brought it to the brink of collapse. At the time of your story, this war happened 500 years ago, and the inhabitants of the world have since lost their connection to their gods.
On your journey through Terminus, you will uncover the secrets of the past and unleash the ancient power of the gods. You will need this, as a war is brewing again.
Oldschool MMORPG for team players
Gameplay-wise, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen clearly orients itself to classic MMORPGs. Content is designed to be tackled together with other players. If you prefer to play solo and want quick successes, you are likely to be disappointed with Pantheon.
The developers explain this in their welcome post on Steam:
This is a game that is slow. It is methodical; it will punish you. If you are looking for instant gratification, this is not the game for you. Terminus is a world full of dangers; you will need help. And while it is certainly possible to play alone, that is not the goal of the game.
The developers also warn that there will be character wipes during early access. After certain updates, you may find yourself having to start over again. However, once the game reaches version 1.0, this should no longer happen.
A major influence for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is the MMORPG EverQuest. Although it did not achieve the breakthrough that World of Warcraft did, the game did set standards in the genre. For this reason, it also deserves a place on our list of the 7 MMORPGs that were already successful before WoW.
