Today, the new major expansion for Lord of the Rings Online – Fate of Gundabad is released. New content from the expansion had already gone live before, but today the majority of the new content arrives. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What is Fate of Gundabad? The new expansion for the MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online is called Fate of Gundabad and is released today. It brings many new features and is thematically focused on the dwarves.
The key new features include the following content:
- A new class (which has already been released)
- Improved legendary item system (also already in the game)
- Maximum level raised to 140
- 5 new regions
- Quests for characters starting from level 20
- The possibility to form an alliance with the Zhélruka dwarves
- New story content revolving around the dwarves of Gundabad
Standing Stone Games has released a new launch trailer today to coincide with the release, focusing on the story of the addon. There, not only dwarves await you, but also dragons.

Take Back Gundabad
What is the expansion about? The fate of Gundabad literally lies in your hands. The expansion represents the climax of the story surrounding Durin’s heirs and sends you into the icy mountains of Gundabad.
This has been overrun by goblins and other creatures, and you must ensure that it falls back into the hands of the dwarves forever.
On your journey, you will face dangerous opponents such as Gorgar the Merciless and even the dragon Hrímil Frostheart, who awaits you in the final battle of Gundabad.
What new content is coming? The 5 new regions around Gundabad are filled with new PvE content, quests, instances, and raids. You can earn 98 new trait points and take down new enemies.
The new areas and instances include the Lake of Düsterting, the Citadel of Máttugard, and the Ruins of Spaltkluft. There is sure to be a lot of variety.
Additionally, there will be new quests that characters can experience somewhere between level 20 and 140.
What else is coming? The content of Fate of Gundabad is not yet complete. A reward path system, similar to the one in Guild Wars 2, is yet to come for legendary items.
We don’t know exactly what that looks like yet. However, with the new content in Gundabad, enthusiastic PvE players should have plenty to do for a while.
