The new Digimon game Digimon Survive is a survival tactics game in the Digimon universe. It will adopt a rather darker and more adult tone and is expected to be released in 2022.
What is Digimon Survive? Digimon Survive will be another game in the Digimon universe following titles like Digimon Super Rumble. However, the game is aimed more at adult fans of the franchise and will have a rather darker tone. Even the anime-style trailer shows eerie scenes of red-eyed creatures lurking in the forest.
The game itself looks a bit like tactical RPGs such as Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics. You fight with your upgradeable Digimon beasts in turn-based tactical battles against other creatures.
So at least this aspect it shares with Digimon Super Rumble and its turn-based combat system.
The story revolves around a group of teenagers who get lost in another world full of strange beings and must find their way back. There will be multiple choices and endings, including “bad endings,” which you see when you make wrong decisions, leading to beloved characters dying (via Wikipedia).
Release likely in 2022
When is the game coming out? In a quarterly report from the responsible company Toei Animation, it was recently announced that Digimon Survive has been postponed to Q3 2022. This would mean sometime between July 1 and September 30 of the year 2022. So you’ll have to wait a good year for the game.
But that is still better than the previous rumors about cancellation (via Dualshockers). Curiously, the game’s homepage still mentions a release in 2021.
For which platforms will it be released? If Digimon Survive actually emerges to be released, it is planned for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
