Survival and sandbox are two themes that are currently extremely popular among MMO developers. With New Dawn, another survival MMO is on the horizon.
The Italian developers have now released first gameplay footage of their survival game. Thanks to Unreal Engine 4, it looks quite good, but its activities strongly resemble Conan Exiles and ARK.
You are indigenous people of an island in the Caribbean when pirates land and your life descends into chaos. First, you need to build a village, for which you will scour the island for resources. You will craft tools and weapons, build tents and huts, and see to your food and clothing needs.
Slavery seems to be coming back in style
You will also encounter other players and can either ally with them to defend yourselves against the pirates or fight against each other. Trading, hunting, crafting, trapping, and livestock raising will make your life easier on the 49 km² large island.
It is even possible to capture pirates, break their will, and make them your slaves. The slaves then protect your village during your absence. Sounds a lot like Conan Exiles, right? You’re not far off.
Will you survive?
The MMO aims to offer you many freedoms, but also presents a lot of dangers. These come from the pirates, wild animals, and other players. Therefore, your top priority is: Survive.
Currently, it is not yet known when New Dawn will be released. It is also unclear which platforms will be supported. However, the Kickstarter campaign to secure the development of the survival online game will start on January 16.

As good as New Dawn looks, does the world really need another survival sandbox online game? I don’t want to sound negative, but apart from the scenario, New Dawn sounds just like Conan Exiles. But I guess it’s like everywhere: Competition stimulates business. Every game will want to assert itself in its own way with the players, which motivates the developers to give their best. Players can only benefit from this and ultimately choose the game that is the most fun.
