In the Call of Duty: Warzone, a new cutscene has surfaced related to the long-suspected nuke event. However, the video raises more questions than it answers. MeinMMO summarizes the information and shows what it could mean.
What happened? On the evening of December 18, a new leak circulated through the relevant channels. “MODERN WARFARE NUKE EVENT CUTSCENE LEAKED” tweeted, for example, the leaker who had already shown the contents of Cold War Season 1 before the official presentation. Leakers found a new video with poor audio quality in the Warzone files, showing the atomic bomb. The video is titled in the files: Warzone_Finale.
For months, the rumor has been that Call of Duty: Warzone wants to bid farewell to its release map Verdansk with the big bang of an atomic explosion. The video fueled the nuke speculation for a few hours.
However, during the night, the circumstances changed. A well-known puzzle-solver of Warzone, YouTuber and streamer Geeky Pastimes, solved the new secret data mission and was then able to watch the video with complete audio. Suddenly, the nuke event was off the table.
Instead of showing an impending explosion, the video reveals that Captain Price and his gang managed to avert the looming atomic explosion. We have embedded the English cutscene here for you:
Video makes nuke event less likely
Here’s what’s to see: The “Modern Warfare” terrorist Viktor Zakhaev is in Bunker 10 south of Verdansk and is arming his atomic bomb. This bomb was also part of a secret data mission in Season 5, and for many players, it was a clear hint of an upcoming nuke event in Warzone.
However, instead of initiating the destruction of Verdansk, a heroic Captain Price suddenly stands next to him, putting the terrorist in his place. Price throws Zakhaev over a barrier and manages to deactivate the rocket in the nick of time.
Price then meets a large part of his SAS squad at the dam in the north of Verdansk. They are sure that the threat to the city is not over yet, despite the victory over Zakhaev. Price then contacts an old acquaintance, operator Soap, who informs him that things are heating up near the coast. The entire squad then jumps off the dam using their wingsuits.
What could this mean? The nuke event could be off the table for good. The leak account “ModernWarzone” on Twitter, which had provided many insights before the release of the Battle Royale, stated on Twitter:
Tweet translation: “At this point, neither we nor our sources know if the nuke is still even used to transition to the next big Warzone map. I mean, it didn’t go off? How much longer can they tease us with that…”
But although the nuke event seems less likely now, the video may provide some insights into what to expect in the Warzone soon.
Cutscene could provide clues on how Warzone continues
The lengthy cutscene shows at least 3 clues regarding what could be coming up in the Warzone:
- The cult operator Soap, who has also been leaked
- Wingsuits like in Blackout, the Battle Royale from Black Ops 4
- A threat near the coast
What will happen next? That Soap will come as an operator was already hinted at by a developer last summer. Now there has been the first official mention in the game itself and almost a confirmation that you will soon be hunting with the “Modern Warfare” operator. The new character might even come with a content drop for CoD MW from 2019. A recent leak suggests that.
Additionally, wingsuits might soon become a topic in the Battle Royale. Currently, one can open their parachute when jumping from a certain height. Wingsuits would add more speed. Perhaps the entire jumping mechanics from the transport plane at the start of the match will be changed so that you can only use the parachute once in a match, which would be significantly more realistic. So far, however, there is only this video as a hint.
As another clue, Soap mentions in a brief conversation with Price about action near the coast. He is a click (not quite 100 meters) from the coast and things are getting “hot” there. The next threat could therefore come from the sea. Possibilities could include bombardments during matches, as seen in competitor PUBG in the red zones. Perhaps a ship will appear that regularly targets Verdansk.
However, aside from Operator Soap, it remains entirely unclear whether the new clues from the video can be interpreted in this direct way. What is certain is that the latest events in Season 1 have thoroughly shaken expectations for the story of Verdansk. Even more than the best weapons in Warzone. Because here, despite more than 30 new firearms, there have hardly been any changes.
