In 2019, an MMO based on Transformers, the movie with the auto-robots, was announced. However, the development is said to have encountered difficulties. Now a new studio is continuing the work on the co-op shooter
What kind of game will this be? Transformers Reactive is set to be a co-op shooter for 1 to 4 players, played from a third-person perspective. The core gameplay is said to be heavily inspired by Destiny 2, according to insider Tom Henderson:
- There will be 3 classes, similar to the Hunter, Warlock, and Titan in Destiny 2. They are expected to fulfill a Holy Trinity of Tank, DPS, and Support.
- The game is said to focus on team play.
- According to the story, a new enemy threatens Earth – “The Legion”. These will be adversaries that can be both organic and inorganic.
- You will encounter familiar characters from the films such as Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
The Transformers MMO is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and is set to start a beta in 2023. It will be released for PC and consoles.
Where did the information come from? Tom Henderson has good contacts in the gaming industry and often brings new, exclusive information. He shared the details on the website Insider-Gaming. There, he also revealed that a new studio has taken over the MMO.

How did the development of the game go? In 2019, an MMO for Transformers was announced at China Joy. The US studio Certain Affinity was supposed to handle the development, as they had previously worked on Halo and Call of Duty.
The publisher and client was the studio “Leyou Technologies”, which had also worked on the Lord of the Rings MMORPG with Amazon in the meantime. 10 million dollars were reportedly invested in the new Transformers MMO upfront.
In a 2021 podcast, Senior Producer Aaron Hamilton revealed the name of the new game: Transformers Rise (via Apple). However, further details were not provided.
Who is developing the game now? According to Henderson, the project has been handed over to the studio Splash Damage because Certain Affinity encountered issues during development.
Splash Damage is based in London and has worked on titles such as Batman: Arkham Origins and Gears of War 4. However, an official confirmation is still pending. Henderson has already reached out to the studio, which has declined to comment on speculation.
