What kind of game is this? Surrounded is a survival game that was released on July 14 in Early Access on Steam. It will cost €8.99, with the price expected to rise to €15 after Early Access.
Surrounded can be played cooperatively with up to 6 players and promises an open world featuring various “paranormal activities, strange sightings, and creatures that can end your life.”
The game world is said to be dynamic and fully explorable, including forests, buildings, and hidden structures. In addition, the developers at Nightmare Studios promise that you can open every door and interact with most items.
To ideally put you in a horror mood, Surrounded makes use of the power of Unreal Engine 5. What it looks like in the game is shown in the trailer:
What is Surrounded about? In the story of Surrounded, there was a complete system meltdown in a remote research lab where dark matter was being worked on.
The catastrophe also affected the surrounding forests and villages – and the region became an area full of dangers.
Shortly after the incident in the lab, government agents reportedly disappeared in the area after trying to investigate the destruction and look for survivors.
Now the region is a restricted area and sealed off from the outside world. The remaining inhabitants have been warned not to enter the place.
But of course, players take on the role of a group that ignores the warning and enters the dangerous region anyway to convince themselves that they are indeed surrounded by dangerous beings and strange events – like the teenagers in numerous classic horror films.
What content is yet to come? On Steam, the developers have already published an initial small roadmap showing upcoming content that Surrounded is expected to receive in the future.
According to this, the integration of a skill tree is supposed to follow in August. A new creature, competitive levels, and further achievements are also set to be added.
After that, more creatures, storylines, and even a new map are expected to complement the game. Additionally, a Halloween event is planned for October.
