Marvel is launching a new comic series featuring Iron Man. The first issue, Iron Man #1, is scheduled to debut in October. In the story, written by Spencer Ackerman and Julius Ohta, Tony Stark takes new paths. He is assembling a new suit that has never been seen in 60 years of Iron Man history.
What kind of new suit will it be? Tony Stark had lost both his company and access to his high-tech equipment. At the start of the new comic series, the billionaire has regained everything – including his confidence.
However, the technology doesn’t cooperate as he would like. Thus, throughout the series, he will create a brand new suit described as “Improvised Iron Man”. Visually, the suit is distinctly different from his previous ones as it looks like a mix of steampunk and submarine.
The suit is not perfect from the beginning, which is why Tony Stark constantly needs to tinker with and improve it. Marvel did not reveal what special features the suit contains.
Tony Stark was portrayed in the original Iron Man film trilogy by Robert Downey Jr.:
Iron Man must face a familiar enemy
What do we know about the story? Iron Man has to face familiar foes. Tony Stark is determined never to lose his company and equipment again. He must confront well-known enemies like Roxxon and A.I.M. These are two companies that pursue their own goals.
There’s an additional threat. There will be a new Iron Monger, who is seen in the lower image on the right side. The new Iron Man is depicted on the left. The Iron Monger is a villain who is repeatedly portrayed by different characters in Marvel comics.

He also possesses a special suit made of “Omnium steel” that offers various weapon technologies. These include:
- An exoskeleton that enhances the user’s strength
- Repulsor rays that can be fired
- Laser beams that are shot from the chest area of the suit
- Magnetic turbine boots that enable subsonic flight, meaning less than 1 Mach
The design is based on Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit but is an improved version of it. The image shows that the suit is a true marvel of technology. Marvel suggests that there is a mysterious, new force behind the Iron Monger.
What about the movies? The original Iron Man film series consists of three titles. Currently, it does not seem like a fourth part will follow. However, the superhero is a popular guest in various Marvel films, including Spider-Man.
The actor who played Iron Man in the original film trilogy will, however, never return as Iron Man on screen. A comeback of Robert Downey Jr. on the big screen is thus excluded: Marvel chief explains why Robert Downey Jr. will never return as Iron Man
