Ready or Not, one of the most popular co-op shooters, was released yesterday. On Steam, player numbers skyrocketed to ten times the previous amount. MeinMMO explains what makes it special.
What kind of shooter is this? In the co-op shooter Ready or Not, we play as police units tasked with clearing buildings of various danger situations. The game is purely PvE and can be played in online co-op via Steam.
A tactical approach is very important as the game aims to be both a hardcore shooter and a realistic police simulation. This means: keep an eye on who you’re aiming at. In the various scenarios, you will be faced with a series of different, sometimes very diverse situations that need to be solved.
You can also play the game alone, with a squad of AI-controlled NPCs. You command them using a complex communication menu throughout the game. A few months ago, we reported on the early access version of the game, where you should storm a streamer’s apartment with blue hair.
Here you can watch the trailer for the new full version of Ready or Not.
With the release, the hype for Ready or Not returns
Where did the 50,000 players suddenly come from? Just the day before the release, Ready or Not had only 5,000 players; the player numbers of the game have multiplied by ten at launch. Many players eagerly anticipated the release, as it brings numerous new maps and weapons as well as a new AI system. The AI is now much smarter than before, which the developer explains in a 14-minute video on YouTube.
Efforts were made to make the game as realistic as possible. The AI adapts to the player, dodges when he aims at something, and moves around the player in the desired formation.
The game has gathered many fans during its early access phase; these fans returned at the game’s release and all want to play the finished product. Additionally, new players are now starting to notice the game.
What makes the game so good? On Steam, fans praise the co-op mode and the targeted realism of the game. FX_Daytrader says: “Ready or Not is bursting with realism – it’s a lot of fun in co-op.” Others keep it quite simple; Prophet says about the game: “The coolest SWAT shooter humanity has ever seen.”
Many users on Steam rate the game as difficult, but also state that the feeling of having accomplished something after failing a few times is very rewarding.
The co-op mode is well received by players; Browniii claims on Steam: “Simply storm and clear a building with friends, awesome!” The setting is also well-liked by fans in many reviews.
The mix of these factors seems to ensure that fans are having a lot of fun with Ready or Not. Although many emphasize that one should be aware that this is not an arcade shooter.
Our MeinMMO author Marko recommended Ready or Not in our “Find your Next Game” format when it was still in “Early Access”; you can read again why here.
