The famous Warhammer universe brings with Warhammer 40k: Darktide a new co-op shooter, where you fight against Chaos with up to 3 teammates. The closed beta starts on October 14 on Steam and GeForce Now. Those who sign up now have a chance for access.
What kind of shooter is this? Warhammer 40,000: Darktide takes place in a grim future that you probably wouldn’t want to live in: in a massive “Hive City”, the law-abiding citizens of the Empire reside, but beneath them, the followers of Chaos are plotting their rise.
The worshipers of the Plague God Nurgle or the seducer Slaanesh are a constant threat. You will be sent into the depths of the megacity to clean up.
Darktide is a new co-op game with shooter and hack ‘n’ slash elements, where you face hordes of enemies. The game is being developed by Fatshark, the team that also created Warhammer: Vermintide 2.
Here you can see the trailer for the currently running beta:
Darktide is like Left 4 Dead in 40,000 years
This is what makes Darktide special: The gameplay of Darktide can be roughly imagined like what you know from classics like Left 4 Dead and the like. Teams of up to 4 players carve their way through various levels and must be careful not to get overwhelmed.
However, there is one significant difference from Left 4 Dead, Vermintide, and similar games: you can create your own character. Appearance, voice, and origin are individually customizable. Various classes to choose from include:
- Psyker, a kind of mage
- Sniper
- Ogryn, the “Heavy Weapons Guy”
- Preacher, the paladin of the team
The enemies are mostly zombie-like, Chaos-mutated humans and monsters that will make your life difficult in the dystopian city with “simple” cannon fodder and tough elite opponents.
Where can I sign up for the beta? On the Steam website, you can sign up for the playtest with one click on the corresponding button. In our attempt, we received the invitation a few minutes after submitting it in our inbox.
MeinMMO reader McPhil pointed out that you can currently snag both parts of the spiritual predecessor Vermintide with many DLC for a low price at Humble Bundle.
The developers have already announced that more players may be invited over the weekend. The test runs from October 14-16 on Steam and GeForce Now. Warhammer 40k: Darktide will be released for PC on November 30 and shortly thereafter for Xbox.
