The Russian publisher and developer Gaijin Entertainment presents the new co-op game “Age of Water” in a first trailer and announces an alpha phase. MeinMMO introduces you to the game and explains how you can secure a chance to participate in the alpha.
What kind of game is Age of Water? This is a new co-op MMO that lets you explore a drowned world in a distant future. The surface of the Earth consists only of a vast ocean with few solid places, and the inhabitants fight for the last resources and their lives – similar to the survival game Raft.
Gaijin Entertainment is known for its co-op games such as “Crossout”, “War Thunder”, or “Star Conflict” and is collaborating with The Three Whales Studio to create a new adventure game in the style of the 90s blockbuster “Waterworld”.
Age of Water brings 90s blockbuster to life
What is known so far? Not much yet. The new game was announced just before Christmas (December 23) with a first “Alpha Test Announce” trailer and introduced with a new homepage. We embed the English trailer here for you:
In terms of gameplay, the first impressions show clear parallels to the pirate game “Sea of Thieves“, but without the PvP component. The video description states that you explore the vastness of the sea with your boat, traveling from settlement to settlement, fighting pirates, and discovering the hidden treasures of a drowned, technologically advanced civilization.
As special features, the trailer and homepage mention:
- Crazy new world where rather primitive humans encounter modern technologies
- You explore the drowned Earth with a ship and your friends
- You can customize, upgrade, and expand your ship
- Under the water surface, there are sunken cities that you can investigate for new technologies and resources
- You can hunt pirates and plunder merchant ships
- Trade with settlements is also an option
- No signs of a PvP component so far
Moreover, the developers hint that it will likely be a rather challenging game. The trailer states “Age of Water is tough and unforgiving”. The graphics somewhat reminiscent of “Fortnite” and are more in a comic style. This could suggest a setting that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
No specific dates yet, but sign up for the alpha
When will it be released? Currently, no release date has been given. With the trailer, the developers showed the very first images of the game, but they are already hoping for a timely alpha phase. However, there is no specific date for the alpha yet.
How can I participate in the alpha? There is currently no guaranteed way to enter the test phase. However, you can sign up for the alpha phase and will then be selected if you’re lucky.

So far, there is rather little information about the game, but the setting should be exciting for fans of co-op games like “Sea of Thieves” or “Crossout“. The boats offer engagement for multiple players simultaneously and the customization options seem to be large. If you like the water setting, keep an eye on the title.
