What game are we talking about? Dungeons & Kingdoms is a new game on Steam from the indie developer studio Uncle Grouch Gaming. There is not yet an exact release date, but in a recent announcement, the developers stated that they hope to present a demo in October.
The game aims to offer you an interesting mix of a city-building game, where you manage your own kingdom, and a dungeon crawler. Visually, Dungeons & Kingdoms is also a mix, as the grass and fire look quite realistic while the characters and buildings are designed in a polygon graphic style.
What can you expect? The game indeed delivers what its name promises: a kingdom and plenty of dungeons. You can already play the prologue for free on Steam.
True to a city-building game, you start with a small group of refugees on uninhabited land and make it your mission to create a new, beautiful home for them. You need to chop down trees, cultivate plants, gather resources, and hunt animals to ensure survival. Then you can build structures, having over 500 parts and items at your disposal.
Two interesting features are terraforming and blueprints. Firstly, you have the option to reshape the landscape of your kingdom, such as flattening hills for new fields or digging a moat around your castle.
These seem quite necessary, as Dungeons & Kingdoms features a day-and-night cycle that can unleash various attackers upon you. Bandits and wild animals will attack, and it’s your job to protect your inhabitants.
You can save all your buildings as blueprints, not only allowing you to build them again but also to upload them to the Steam Workshop and share with other players.
Fight your way through dungeons for loot and progress
As shown in the trailer, you can also expect various dungeons to explore and conquer. Inside, you’ll encounter enemies that you must defeat in third-person combat. For example, in the trailer, you can see a huge serpent, a nasty demon, and even a dragon that you must fight.
From the dungeons, you will receive a variety of loot and treasures to fill your coffers. By progressing through the dungeons, you’ll also unlock new resources and technologies that will help you make your kingdom even better and bigger.
To adeptly navigate through the dungeons, various character customization options will be available to you, allowing you to find your own play style for your adventures.
