Fortnite hosts many different tournaments during its seasons, where players can fight for victory and cash. Unfortunately, a bug recently left some fans frustrated, as it appeared during a tournament and destroyed the map.
What did I miss? On November 3, 2024, the tournament “Reload Performance Evaluation” took place. In this, fans could show what their squad was capable of in seven rounds. The tournament was primarily meant to provide Epic Games with data to improve the fans’ experience in future tournaments. This was not about a cash prize.
Nevertheless, a bug ultimately caused frustrated players, as it marred the gaming experience and also resulted in Epic Games having to cancel the tournament. The developers behind Fortnite are not known for their bugs, making the error you will see shortly all the more bizarre.
Reload map merges with the map from Chapter 2
What did the bug look like? Player Takiilmao posted a video about the bug on x.com. In this video, you can see his skin floating in the water, while a POI is visible underneath him. When the Battle Bus was ready to depart, the full extent of the bug could be recognized – see for yourself:
The complete map from Season: Remix Chapter 2 merged with the map from Reload, creating a completely new battlefield for players to fight on. However, Takiilmao wanted to play the tournament the right way and therefore left the round.
In the comments under his video on x.com, there was complete confusion, as many other players would have explored the map and enjoyed the moment. Such bugs occur very rarely in Fortnite. However, Takiilmao assured that this bug was found four more times in a row for him.
Apparently, Takiilmao was not the only participant experiencing the bug, as Epic Games shortly revealed on x.com that they had to end the tournament prematurely due to a bug that caused many maps to merge.
Why is such a bug annoying? In the “Reload Performance Evaluation” tournament, such a bug can be forgiven, but if it had occurred in a cash cup where money was involved, or in the world championship, the outcry would have been significant. In such tournaments, fans give their all.
If one were to emerge as the upcoming winner, but Epic Games cancels the tournament due to a bug, that is not only frustrating but also unfair. If there were to be a reschedule, the final result could be different. Luckily, this was not the case, as Epic Games managed to locate the bug thanks to the players.
