The new competitor for Diablo takes the next step. There is now a demo of Darkhaven, the new ARPG from some former Diablo developers, available on Steam.
What is Darkhaven? Darkhaven is an action RPG set in a dark fantasy post-apocalypse. You are sent into the dangerous world and must grow into a hero while fighting invasions from the rifts of reality. The demo is now available on Steam.
Who are the developers? Behind Moonbeast Productions are many of the former developers of Diablo and Diablo 2. Among them is Erich Schaefer, who formerly worked as Art Director for Diablo and later became the project leader of Diablo 2.

Darkhaven has several special features
What makes Darkhaven so special? Darkhaven aims to stand out from the competition and boasts several features:
- The world can be altered by destroying the terrain
- Islands, bridges, and entire settlements can be built
- A combat system where you can jump, climb, dodge, and position yourself strategically to gain an advantage over the monsters
- No classic random linear levels, but a cohesive game world made up of biomes
The developers of Darkhaven have also considered modders and plan to integrate an editor into the game. With this, you should be able to create your own items, monsters, classes, and quests in real-time. This can go as far as allowing you to design your own rule set.
What is included in the demo? On the Steam page of the demo are some details about the test version of Darkhaven. According to the developers, there is no fixed end to the demo, but character progression will be halted at level 8.
Furthermore, the demo includes a class with 6 available skills. As a final feature of the demo, there is a world event that you can trigger if you follow the main quests. This event is supposed to change your world completely.
Whether Darkhaven can ultimately prevail against Diablo remains to be seen. On February 12, Blizzard brought a new class to Diablo 2 after 26 years. With the shadow drop of the “Reign of the Warlock” expansion for Diablo 2: Resurrected, the remake has received the Warlock as a class.
