Capcom recently presented the action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 at its own showcase. Here, chief developer Hideaki Itsuno shared some words and reaffirmed the old virtues of its predecessor. An enhanced AI is also set to be implemented.
What did Hideaki Itsuno say? Within the Capcom Showcase, chief developer Hideaki Itsuno announced that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will embrace the old virtues of its predecessor.
This includes, among other things, an open world and group gameplay with the Pawns
, the companions in the game, or fighting boss monsters with climbing elements and searching for weaknesses.

Itsuno emphasized the enhanced AI experience. The companions will develop their own personalities, which you can significantly influence in the game. This is expected to create a completely different group dynamic compared to the predecessor.
Fans are divided on multiplayer in Dragon’s Dogma 2
What feature is missing from the game? Although the enhanced AI in the sequel reinterprets the group feeling, there are fans like Kotaku user Connor ****less, who praises Itsuno’s statement, but also misses one detail (via Kotaku). He says:
- Kotaku user Connor ****less:
Pawns are good, but a coop definitely should have been integrated. That’s huge nonsense for a game that I will definitely buy
.

Other users on YouTube like user niktuono share this view. The YouTube user niktuono hopes that the coop will be added in the future through a DLC.
YouTube user Heavenly Steel counters that the developer should focus more on single-player and not waste resources on other features like multiplayer. After all, Dragon’s Dogma became successful due to this (via YouTube).
On the other hand, it should be noted that there was already a Dragon’s Dogma Online, which unfortunately had to shut down its servers in 2019. This title was an action MMO that allowed players to experience the world of Dragon’s Dogma together in small groups. Cities functioned as hubs where players could form groups.
It remains unclear at this point whether Capcom will decide to use the experiences from the MMO counterpart to create, for example, a DLC that adds coop features.
