New ability from Destiny 2 pulls at the threads of reality – This is what Strand can do

In Destiny 2 there are just over 2 weeks left until the Guardians will don their new Strand outfit. Along with other changes, the new subclass is by far the most important feature of the Lightfall expansion. Therefore, we are showing you all aspects, fragments, and grenades at a glance beforehand. This way, you can already start thinking about builds.

What is Strand? The Strand ability is the newest subclass in the loot shooter Destiny 2. It will be released with the upcoming Lightfall DLC on February 28, 2023 and will open up new possibilities for each class, namely Titan, Warlock, and Hunter, to defeat enemies and move around.

Creating an object with Strand is called “Weaving” and killing enemies means “unraveling” them. Dead enemies also leave behind a “Tangle” usable by Guardians.

The Strand class descriptions summarize the new ability:

• Titan:
  • Untamed and wild, the Titans in Lightfall selflessly put themselves in danger and show their green claws to tear targets from the fabric of reality. Every opponent should think carefully about whether they want to cross the drawn line.
• Warlock:
  • Warlocks are telekinetic sorcerers in Lightfall who manipulate the new Strand fabric and even shape deadly “Strand thralls” that obey their commands.
• Hunter:
  • In Lightfall, Hunters are masters of deadly grace. The new skyscraper city of Neomuna becomes their airy movement playground. They use the Strand fabric to dance unscathed through enemy lines and to dismantle foes with the “Strand Lasso.”

Besides the new ability itself, players will be able to tailor Strand in Lightfall particularly through aspects and fragments. They will enhance the usefulness of Strand. Additionally, there will also be so-called “Shared Abilities” and new grenades.

All Strand Subclasses in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Titan – Berserker and All-Destroyer

What can the Titan do with Strand? Instead of using fists, Titans in Lightfall will shape impressive blades from Strand using their fists to tear through enemy ranks.

Special Advantage: Even if it seems like Titans in Lightfall are just “swinging around” again, Bungie emphasized that the class should still feel fresh for all experienced Titans. So wrap yourselves in the fabric of reality and become a berserker.

These are the Strand abilities of the Titan:

• Blade Frenzy: The Titan’s super weaves powerful claws and storms the battlefield with new light and heavy attacks.
• Ecstatic Blade: With this melee ability, you attack targets and slice them with blades made from finely ground Strand.

Aspects that the Strand Titan can use:

• Into the Fray: Improves your armor with a woven chain armor and increases your melee regeneration.
• Elegant Whip Strike: With this class ability, you send a powerful shockwave that binds all enemies hit. This frontal shockwave also stuns.

Warlock – Thread Weaver and Minion Master of the “Strand Thralls”

What can the Warlock do with Strand? Warlocks will be able to shape things with Strand in Lightfall. With the new Lightfall subclass, they create their powerful “Strand Thrall” army, which attacks enemies or, when there is nothing to do, hangs out with you.

Special Advantage: Even though the three other classes can also interact with the “Threads,” their official name, the Thread Weaver is still the Minion Master of this new and enemy-eating species.

These are the Strand abilities of the Warlock:

• Needle Storm: The Warlock’s super weaves a cloud of Strand to create a shower of piercing projectiles that detonate on impact.
• Arcane Needle: Throw a Strand needle that tracks your target and disintegrates it. Attack your targets and slash them with blades made from finely ground Strand.

Aspects that the Strand Warlock can use:

• Call of the Weaver: When you use a Rift, you create three threads on the ground near you.
• Command of the Mind: Enhances your grenades with additional Thread Weaver-specific properties.

Hunter – Thread Runner and Superhero Acrobat

What can the Hunter do with Strand? Even though all three classes will use the new “Grapple” ability, the Hunter is still the master of the Strand Air. His movement looks the best of all three classes and he doesn’t just swing his Strand Grapple Lasso against enemies. He is also masterful at using it for movement.

Special Hunter Advantage: The Hunter will be the only class that, through the Strand aspect “Widow’s Silk,” will be a “Pathmaker” for his teammates in the air. When his team holds onto grapple points created by him, it costs them no grapple energy. This allows a team to overcome enormous distances together, as long as it can be coordinated.

These are the Strand abilities of the Hunter:

• Thread Spike: Throw a rope arrow that damages targets, ricochets, and refunds melee energy.
• Silk Strike: The Hunter’s super combines a grapple hook with a rope arrow to seize the battlefield and eliminate your targets skillfully.

Aspects that the Strand Hunter can use:

• Binding Strike: Attack your targets by diving down from above, slamming to the ground, and binding them through the impact.
• Widow’s Silk: Grapple more often and create grapple points that you and your squad can use indefinitely.

Thus, you have a complete overview of all abilities of Strand in Season 20 for the respective classes. But there is still more to discover.

Strand Grenades and all Fragments of all Classes

For each class that draws power from the fabric and is lured into darkness by the promised strength, there are also shared abilities in the form of Strand grenades and fragments.

What grenades does Strand offer? With Strand, players in Destiny 3 will be able to use new types of grenades, including the grapple, which can be controlled with the grenade button.

• Threadling Grenade
  • Splits into three projectiles that turn into Threadlings on impact.
• Binding Grenade
  • A type of bola that, when it explodes, sends out a binding wave and releases additional small bolas to bind nearby enemies.
• Grapple
  • The third option is that players can press their grenade button to weave a hook from Strand matter. With this, they can hook onto an anchor point and move through the air even when there is no solid surface to cling to. While doing so, or at the end, Guardians can also perform melee attacks (called “Grapple Melee”) that deal bonus damage, disintegrate enemies, and push them away.

In addition to the three grenade options, there are also 14 elemental Strand fragments:

• Thread of Ascendancy: Activating your grenade ability reloads your equipped weapons and temporarily increases effectiveness in the air and weapon handling. 
• Thread of Rage: When you deal damage to targets with a Tangle, you gain melee energy. 
• Thread of Finality: Finishers create Threadlings.  
• Thread of Defiance: Picking up a sphere of power grants Woven Armor. 
• Thread of Mind: Defeating bound targets grants class ability energy.
• Thread of Wisdom: Defeating bound targets with precision kills generates a sphere of power.
• Thread of Rebirth: Scoring kills with a Strand weapon has a chance to create a Threadling.
• Thread of Transmutation: While wearing Woven Armor, weapon kills create a Tangle.
• Thread of Spread: Charged melee kills grant your Strand weapons disintegrating projectiles.
• Thread of Evolution: Threadlings travel farther and deal more damage.
• Thread of Isolation: Scoring quick precision hits sends a rending impulse from the target.
• Thread of Binding: Super kills send a binding impulse from the target.
• Thread of Generation: Dealing damage generates grenade energy.
• Thread of Sustenance: Binding, disintegrating, and rending effects on targets last longer.
