Perfect World, which publishes MMOs including Neverwinter, Star Trek Online and Swordsman, is facing difficulties in the USA.
As reported by gamesindustry.biz, the MMO giant “Perfect World” is experiencing revenue issues in the USA. Overall, the company had a good quarter, but this was mainly due to the home market, China, where some mobile games performed well. Additionally, Perfect World publishes DOTA 2 in China and that is doing excellently.
However, the figures in the US market do not seem to be very good. Especially Neverwinter, a fantasy MMO set in the Dungeons&Dragons universe, is the flagship of the company. It was supposed to also launch in China and create a stir; for the local launch of the XBox One, a console version of the game was released. However, they did not want to comment on how this XBox version is performing to gamesindustry.biz.
The numbers from the USA are described as “below expectations.” And the near future prospects are seen as critical. However, at Perfect World, they believe that they have strong games in the “pipeline.”
Mein MMO opines: For fans of Perfect World’s games, essentially all games starting from the Arc launcher, this is likely not good news. Ultimately, we are affected by everything happening in the USA, as Europe and North America are often treated as “one market” from an Asian perspective.
