In Neverwinter , the new class, the Paladin, is extensively presented in a dev blog.
Neverwinter takes place in the D&D universe, which is well known for its class variety, especially in newer editions. Therefore, the initial disappointment among Neverwinter fans was significant, as relatively few options were available from all these possibilities. Cryptic is changing this by regularly introducing new classes.
Next up is the “Oathbound Paladin”. Depending on the oath he takes, he fulfills one of two roles:
- With the Oath of Protection, he takes 10% less damage and deals 500% more threat. He becomes a classic tank, capable of casting an absorb shield on himself and his group while having various taunt abilities.
- On the other hand, with the Oath of Devotion, he becomes a healer, likely specializing in group healing, hot effects, and increasing the healing received by his allies.
Known from numerous other games, the Paladin in Neverwinter also relies on his auras, which grant a positive effect to all allies or impose a negative effect on enemies:
- Aura of Courage: Bonus damage for you and allied players within 30 feet.
- Aura of Truth: Enemies within 30 feet deal 5% less damage.
- Aura of Wisdom: You and your allies within 30 feet receive a 10% faster recharge.
- Aura of Haste: +20% movement speed for you and your allies within 30 feet, and you generate action points 20% faster.
