As announced at an investors’ conference, Bioware is working on a new franchise. The first game is expected to be released at the end of March 2018.
Bioware also stated that fans should not expect a new role-playing game. The game is set in the action-adventure genre and aims to flip what you expect from an action game on its head. A multiplayer component is apparently planned as well. Bioware indicates that players will come together with friends in a new and interesting way. With the action game, they aim to reach a broad audience.

No RPG but RPG elements
The new game has been in development since 2012 and was teased at GDC last year – but no one noticed at the time. Bioware employees wore T-shirts with the logo and title of the game at GDC, but no one picked up on it. In the coming months, the studio plans to reveal more about the game.
The developers explain that while it is an action-adventure, there will still be RPG elements involved. There will be a type of character development system, and you will be guided through a story like in an RPG. All of this is supposed to be embedded in plenty of action and adventure. Sounds a bit like Destiny and The Division. There’s a lot of money to be made in this genre.
A completely new franchise
The game is not based on any of the studio’s previous universes. You will get to know completely new characters and also experience a gameplay that differs from previous Bioware titles.
The team aims to combine the entire experience of over 20 years to create something new and unique. Bioware is looking forward to presenting the new game soon and answering all questions. They hope for a bright future for the new franchise.

Andreas says:
What Bioware is working on is therefore not an RPG, although it contains RPG elements. There will be a character progression system and apparently quests, as Bioware mentions that you will be guided through the story as known from previous games. And there will be some kind of merging with other players.
Overall, it sounds like a cooperative game that focuses on action but also features quests. In broad terms, this could also apply to The Witcher 3, where you can invite friends to a cooperative adventure. Or is Bioware about to deliver something like Destiny or The Division? I’m very curious to see what Bioware will present in the coming months.
