The business with Star Wars: Battlefront is booming. Is the next installment already in the works at Electronic Arts?
When is the next “Battlefront” coming out?
Star Wars: Battlefront will likely go down as one of the major successes in the history and business records of Electronic Arts. With 11 million copies shipped and over 1 million bundle sales of the PS4 version of the game, the equation worked perfectly. When Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen announced the quarterly figures of the publisher Electronic Arts, some comments were made about a potential sequel. The conversation was that customers unexpectedly preferred a physical version of the game over a digital one.
Jorgensen stated that this could indeed be the case, “if we make the next Battlefront,” but added that there are no concrete plans for it yet. While this is not a definitive commitment, it is clear that this possibility is already being discussed internally.
Fans can be sure of one thing. The footage from the new trilogy (Episode VII – IX), including characters, starships, vehicles, and other technological advancements can be used in a future game – but not in DLCs for the current games. The reasons behind this are likely of a legal nature. Will Kylo Ren rage across the battlefield in the next Battlefront instead of Darth Vader? We will see.
