The next Assassin’s Creed finally has a name and will be presented with a trailer on May 15, 2024. The Japan setting is exciting for the community, as many fans have been wishing for it for years. But there are also concerns.
What happens in the new game? Assassin’s Creed will soon receive its next installment. The successful game series will release its first trailer on May 15, 2024. However, we will see little gameplay, Ubisoft is talking about a “Cinematic trailer”.
The game has been in development under the codename “Red” until now. Now, with the reveal, we have learned the final name: “Shadows”.
The trailer will be published on the official YouTube channel. Interest is expected to be high, as Shadows takes place in feudal Japan. A setting that many players have been wishing for the series for many years.
In recent years, the series has drifted further and further away from the original concept. Spin-offs like Origins or Odyssey introduced further role-playing elements. Valhalla is, in the view of MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn, only good if you play it like an MMO.
On Reddit, fans had various reactions. While many are looking forward to the game, others feel the perfect moment has already passed.
Here you see the trailer for the last installment of the series:
“Feudal Japan is all I wanted”
What does the community say? Just the announcement of the Japan setting is enough to fulfill the wishes of many fans. With it comes the hope that the focus will be more on stealth and secret operations again. On Reddit users share their thoughts.
That the announced trailer will only show cinematics is disappointing for users like Boshikuro: “I hope gameplay follows soon. I want to see the new engine (if there is one), and combat/stealth mechanics.”
Some fans have been waiting for this game for many years. The user Super_Arabe writes: “Feudal Japan is all I wanted.” However, he would have appreciated it more back in 2011.
Also TheeAJPowell says: “Crazy how long it took.”
Carlos_Danger21 notes that fans have been demanding the Japan setting for a long time, but Ubisoft has always denied that such a game would come. That it is finally happening is seen by some commentators as a sign that Ubisoft is slowly caving in.
“A last resort, Ubisoft is desperate,” believes the user aligreaper19. The publisher needs the approval of the fans – and their money. To this, Cleveland_Guardians responds: “Stop. AC Valhalla has made over a billion dollars. I love to mock Ubisoft like the next Ubi hater, but this seems ignorant.”
Is there criticism? What keeps coming up is the statement that many players have been waiting for the Japan setting for a long time. In the meantime, there are titles like Ghost of Tsushima that already cater to a similar niche and have fulfilled the desire for the setting.
“It feels like they (Ubisoft) missed the opportunity,” writes Black_Dumbledore. Matva55 agrees: “They did. In my opinion, Ghost of Tsushima is a better Assassin’s Creed.”
“If it’s a good game, the timing doesn’t matter,” thinks the user Delgadude. When the first trailer is released, we will at least get a first impression.
However, gameplay will likely only be seen during the Ubisoft Forward event on June 10, 2024. Are you excited about the game? What do you think about the Japan setting? Let us know in the comments. You will be able to play the supposed competitor Ghost of Tsushima on PC as of May 16 after a four-year PS exclusivity.
