The arena brawler Battlerite recently got a new game mode called “Battlegrounds”. However, many players are not enjoying it and are upset that the new mode seems to have displaced another popular game mode.
Battlerite is an arena brawler from Stunlock Studios. In Battlerite, you choose a hero with unique skills at the start of the round, just like in a MOBA, and compete against an enemy team with one or more teammates. You control your hero with WASD and the goal is simply to kill the enemy team within a short time.
It purely comes down to skill, and after a few minutes, a match is over. In Battlerite, you only play fast-paced team fights and leave out all the bulky MOBA stuff like minions, creeps, or towers.
But then a new game mode came in, which in the eyes of many players made everything more complicated and less enjoyable…
MOBA mode unwanted!
The newly introduced game mode “Battlegrounds” resembles more a MOBA like Heroes of the Storm. Like in certain HotS maps, you must capture mission objectives here to get the chance to attack the enemy core. If the core is destroyed, the team that was supposed to defend it loses.
Many players do not like the new mode. To them, it is just a soulless HotS copy and also lasts on average 15 minutes, much longer than the short and action-packed arena battles that were previously the only game mode available.
Battlerite was good as it was before!
“But who cares,” some of you might think. “They can just keep playing the arena mode!” Well, that no longer seems to be quite so easy. According to the statements of many users on Reddit, Steam, and the Battlerite forum, the new Battlegrounds mode seems to have displaced the regular casual arena mode.
If you just want to play a few rounds, you now have to play the ranked mode. The arena mode is still present there. However, ranked has so far been intended for dedicated players, and now every beginner plays there, and no one has the opportunity to test a new hero or new tactics in peace in the casual mode before going into ranked.
Players ignite shitstorm, want old mode back!
Therefore, many players are really angry and the forums and Reddit threads are burning with the players’ rage! On Steam, where Battlerite is still doing well, lately only negative reviews are coming in.
However, players would indeed accept the new mode as a supplement. But not as an alternative new casual game mode without a choice! It remains to be seen how the developers will react and whether the situation will change soon.
Battlerite is still in paid early access. On November 8, Battlerite is set to officially launch and become free-to-play.
