Hello Games is currently working on updates for the online game No Man’s Sky and an upcoming patch is apparently going to be very interesting.
On Twitter, Games Director Sean Murray wrote that they will make some people very happy with a new patch for PC and PS4 that is currently being tested. What exactly this patch entails is not clear. Murray might be referring to the experimental update that is already being tested, which primarily increases the performance of the game and reduces stuttering, as well as providing better support for AMD Phenom and Intel CPUs.
What do players wish for from No Man’s Sky?
A better performance would certainly please some players, but why would Sean Murray make such a fuss about it? Is there perhaps another update already in the works? If so, what could make players very happy? One would think directly of a “real” multiplayer feature, meaning the ability to truly interact with other players. This is something that many wish for. However, this would also require increasing the likelihood of encountering other players. This would represent a very deep intervention in the game and also in the game principle.
Presumably, Hello Games is not going to turn No Man’s Sky into an EVE Online with constant interaction with other players and being surrounded by thousands of fellow players. No Man’s Sky thrives on the feeling of loneliness and the hope of someday encountering someone. This would be destroyed, just like the economy in the game, if players were constantly seeing other players mining resources everywhere. One can thus be curious about what Hello Games will do to make the players of No Man’s Sky happy.
