A new series about Star Wars is starting soon on Disney Plus. Even before that, there is already a positive announcement for a second season. It is the return of one of the coolest Sith from Star Wars, this time with his own apprentice.
What series is this about? On April 6, 2026, the new series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will premiere on Disney Plus. As the name suggests, it revolves around the Sith Darth Maul, who made his debut in Star Wars: Episode 1 and quickly became a fan favorite.
By now, he seems to keep coming back, and the new series offers him another stage, this time as the protagonist.
As the official website for Star Wars has now announced, viewers don’t have to say goodbye to the Sith after the first season, as the series has been renewed for a second season.
Darth Maul is not alone
What is Maul – Shadow Lord about? The series takes place after the Clone Wars, roughly after Episode 3. The Emperor is in power, and the Republic has fallen. This also opens up new opportunities for Maul, who wants to build a crime syndicate in the shadows.
However, Maul is not alone. As can be seen in the trailer, he fights alongside another lightsaber user. That is Devon Izara. She is a Jedi Padawan who managed to escape with her master Eeko-Dio Daki before Order 66. In the upcoming series, Maul wants to win her over as his apprentice.
She will then, like Anakin before her, have to struggle with an inner conflict between the dark and light sides of the Force. This was already revealed by the series’ writer, Matt Michnovetz, to Games Radar: We wanted to create a fresh and unique perspective and a new character that interacts with Maul in ways that we hadn’t seen, who is challenged by a very difficult time period in the galaxy and forced to adapt and faced with these temptations.
Since she is a Twi’Lek, some fans think she could be an adaptation of the Legends character Darth Talon, who does not exist in the current canon of Star Wars. Considering that Maul’s story is continued in the series Rebels, this seems unlikely. Rebels takes place shortly before Episode 4, years after the events of the new series.
When does Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord premiere? On Monday, April 6, 2026, the new series will start with 2 episodes on Disney Plus. After that, two new episodes will be released weekly. Episode 10 will serve as the finale on May 4.
