Under the codename “Savage”, the small, action-packed PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) map has been known. Now there are new updates and another test phase for you.
The team from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently working on a new map. Until now, it was only known under the codename “Savage”, but in the future, you will call it Sanhok (pronounced “sah-nok”).
The test phase for the Sanhok map will begin on May 11th, and everyone of you can participate. The developers expect significant feedback from this initiative.
Sanhok – Test phase on the new PUBG map
Until now, you could play on the Erangel map and Miramar in PUBG. It all started with Erangel, the green map that offers many green fields. Miramar, the desert map, is the second arena of the game, which was unlocked at the end of 2017.
What makes Sanhok special? The third PUBG map is called Sanhok and is particularly small. The area measures only 4×4 kilometers – Miramar and Erangel are four times larger at 8×8 kilometers. In Sanhok, you can expect an Asian vibe with temples.
It will take months until the map’s release. The developers stated at the end of the blog post – A specific date is not yet set.
Test phase for everyone! Until now, only invited players could participate in the tests. The new test is open to anyone who owns a copy of PUBG.
Start of the test: The open test for the Sanhok map starts on Friday, May 11th, at 04:00 AM German time
End of the test: The test ends on Monday, May 14th, at 01:00 PM German time
First impressions of the Sanhok map
To gather impressions for the new map, the team from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds traveled around the world. Sanhok was inspired by many islands in Southeast Asia, including some from Thailand and the Philippines.
Fun fact – How did they come up with the name? The Thai word for fun is pronounced “sah-nook”. The Filipino word for chicken is pronounced “mah-nok”. When you combine the two words, you get Sanhok – hence chicken fun or fun chicken!
In previous test runs, the small map was very well received. Players praised the great fun that arises from the smaller play area. You encounter enemies much faster because there is less space to hide. In addition, clothing spawns have previously been disabled on Sanhok – hence, there were almost only useful gadgets on the map.
Is the team also planning a winter map? Fans have already come up with a great concept for a snow map for PUBG.
