Fortnite: Battle Royale will soon get a new weapon. It is a kind of pirate pistol. Values for damage and reload time have already been leaked. But many fans are wondering what the new gun can do.
Here is what the new weapon looks like: Since the launch of Season 8, players have been wondering what the two weapons from the title screen are about. There you can see a pirate with a flintlock pistol and an elf with a bow.
The bow is still not here, but the pistol seems to be the new item for the upcoming update. This would also make it the first new weapon in Season 8. So far, there have only been treasure maps and a ball vehicle.
What can the new weapon do?
The announcement text does not list a specific name. Rather, the pistol is advertised as a “reliable secondary weapon”. It is also said to have a “kick”.

- Rarity: Common/Uncommon
- Damage: 86/90
- Magazine: 1 (Heavy ammo)
- Reload time: 3.19/3.045
What else can it do? The gun is internally referred to as “Flint-Knock” according to the data leak. A play on words on flintlock, meaning flint lock. Old muzzle-loading pistols were ignited with a flint in the hammer.
Flint-Knock could indicate that the new cannon knocks back the opponent, meaning it has a “knock-back” effect. This would differentiate it from the hand cannon, which it seems quite similar to.
Community is wondering what the weapon is good for
This is what the community says: In comments about the pistol, fans are rather confused. They wonder what the purpose of such a weapon is supposed to be? With 90 damage, it is way too weak since it only fires every 3 seconds. The good old hand cannon is still better.
Consequently, many find the pistol dumb and pointless already. They are already comparing it to the unpopular infantry rifle that only Ninja really loves.
At best, the knock-back effect, if it even exists, would be a useful unique feature for the new weapon.
