Netflix presents the new sci-fi action movie in a trailer that you can watch on the streaming service in May. However, the trailer doesn’t generate much anticipation among viewers and also reminds them of a well-known video game.
What movie is this about? The new sci-fi action film on Netflix is called Atlas, which is set to premiere on May 24, 2024. In the story, artificial intelligence plays a major role. An AI soldier is convinced that he has found the solution to all the wars in the world. His solution: Humanity simply must be annihilated.
To prevent this plan, the brilliant but shy data analyst Atlas Shepherd (played by Jennifer Lopez) is tasked with shutting down the rogue robot. However, the plan doesn’t go as hoped, and soon, her only hope of completing the mission is to trust another AI.
Directed by Brad Peyton, known for San Andreas or Rampage – Big Meets Bigger, he has already proven that he can handle spectacular action and plenty of effects. The screenplay is by Aron Eli Coleite (Star Trek: Discovery) and Leo Sardarian (Start-Up).
What are the reactions? Reactions to the film are indeed relatively mixed. However, very few viewers express real excitement. Instead, both under the trailer on YouTube and on Reddit, some users write that it doesn’t look super bad now, but we need to wait to see how the story turns out.
Many users primarily draw comparisons to a popular mech shooter. The title “Titanfall” appears in many comments. Many find that the robots shown in the trailer simply remind them of the mechs from the shooter. “I am 70% sure this is a rejected Titanfall script,” writes one user in their comment on Reddit. Particularly, the casting of Jennifer Lopez seems to not excite many users. Many feel that she is simply a better singer than an actress. Others feel that as an actress, she doesn’t fit into such a genre. For some users, this seems to be reason enough to give the film no further chance.
