In August 2024, there was a gigantic leak of Netflix productions. Among them were complete episodes of popular series like Dandadan or Arcane Season 2. To find the culprit, a court is now summoning Discord.
What happened? In August of this year, there was a major leak that affected many Netflix productions. This included not just information like images from Squid Game Season 2, but entire episodes of hit series. Episodes of series such as Arcane Season 2, Dandadan, or Terminator Zero were leaked in advance.
According to sources provided to Variety, the company Iyuno was affected by a security issue. The company handles translations and subtitles for Netflix productions. They also work for HBO, Amazon, or Disney.
Three months later, the culprit still hasn’t been found. To get closer to the goal, Discord is now being summoned by a court.
Court Wants Personal Information About the Leaker
How does Netflix plan to find the leaker? According to a report by Polygon, a court in California has now summoned Discord for December 2, 2024. In the official document obtained by Polygon (via scribd.com), the court wants sufficient information to identify the individual users of the account @jacejohns4n who are responsible for the unauthorized publication of a copyrighted image on or around November 12, 2024
.
The court intends to find out private information like names or addresses. The user identified by the court reportedly posted unpublished images of Squid Game Season 2 on Discord, according to Polygon.
Netflix did not respond to a request from Polygon on the topic.
The leaker also seems to be proudly commenting on their actions. In an interview (via telegra.ph), which the user @jacejohns4n allegedly posted on X, according to GamesRadar, the supposed leaker referred to it as the worst leak in streaming history.
In the meantime, the X account has been deleted. Whether the person in the interview is truly the perpetrator behind the major leak from September 2024 cannot be confirmed. According to GamesRadar, however, the interview was posted by an X account that shares the same name as the person sought by the court.
In the interview, the alleged leaker also mentions Arcane Season 2, which he considers a downgrade
compared to Season 1. However, he seems to belong to the minority, as Season 2 of Arcane is received quite well by fans and critics: The second season of Arcane on Netflix delights critics and fans – It is better received than The Boys and House of the Dragon
