Netflix announced the cancellation of the popular fantasy series Shadow and Bone – Legends of the Grisha. There will be no third season and the planned spin-off will also not happen. Fans of the book adaptation reacted disappointed and angry to the news.
Shadow and Bone is set in a world torn by war and threatened by a sinister shadowfold. One day, soldier Alina Starkov discovers that she has extraordinary powers. Now she is supposed to save her homeland.
There are a total of 2 seasons of the series. That is how it will stay: Because Netflix announces that there will be no third season and is canceling the spin-off of the series.

“Can’t wait to find a new series that gets canceled after 1 or 2 seasons“
What kind of spin-off was planned? A series about Kaz Brekker and the Dreg gang from Ketterdam was supposed to emerge from Six of Crows. The scripts for the project had already been prepared. Nevertheless, the series Six of Crows will no longer be filmed.
How is the community reacting? Many fans are reacting with anger, disappointment, and sadness to the cancellation of Shadow and Bone.
Some express their disbelief that such a popular series is not getting a third season. Others react a little surprised, as in their opinion, the good series on the platform are always canceled. They accuse Netflix of only continuing the most profitable and cheapest productions.
However, the fans have not completely given up hope. Some now want to sway the streaming provider through petitions or hope that another provider might take over the series.
Here we have collected some reactions to the series cancellation:
- archangel610 via reddit: “It has come to the point where I can no longer get excited about new Netflix shows.”
- Miksu77348999 via X.com: “Mistake of the century”
- giovannanascimento98 via Instagram: “I can’t say I’m surprised. Netflix can’t recognize a fantastic series even when it hits them in the face. I hope another streaming service or network picks up these projects.”
- michelleeb via X.com: “But why? The series was popular, people loved it, there were rumors about spin-offs, we were all looking forward to the next series! Is this yet again a tax/salary issue? Maybe all these creatives should add Netflix to WB as ‘people we can’t work with because they cancel our work.'”
- Bons_On_Ice via X.com: “Netflix disappoints time and again. I can’t wait to find another new series that gets canceled after 1 or 2 seasons because they’re too stingy to pay their talents and staff what they’re worth. Then they try to shift the blame, even though it’s only their greed and lack of vision that’s to blame.”

Why is Shadow and Bone being canceled? According to Deadline, the cost and profit ratio is not the only reason for the end of the series.
Additionally, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, some productions have come to a standstill for a long time and no longer fit into the release plans that had been intended. This may have also contributed to the cancellation.
In addition to Shadow and Bone, Netflix is also canceling the following series:
- Glamorous
- Farzar
- Agent Elvis
- Captain Fall
