The first season of the Netflix series “Wednesday” featuring Jenna Ortega as the lead became an absolute hit. Recently, the actress talked about the 2nd season and mentioned that an unpopular aspect from season 1 will not be included in the continuation.
Now 20 years old, Jenna Ortega began her career as a child actress and is currently one of Hollywood’s most recognized faces.
In 2022, she captivated audiences in the iconic role of Wednesday Addams in the eponymous Netflix series. A 2nd season has already been announced. As Jenna Ortega reveals, there will be a significant change in the continuation that makes her very happy.
Here you can see the announcement for the 2nd season of Wednesday:
“We have decided that we want to focus more on horror”
Wednesday lead actress Jenna Ortega spoke with Elle Fanning in front of the American magazine Variety about their lives as former child stars and her work as a producer.
When asked if the lead actress could reveal anything about season 2, Jenna Ortega responded: “It [the season] is still in the works, but we have decided that we want to focus more on horror. We are leaving out any romantic love story, which is really great. We will be bolder, darker.”
With the romantic love story falling away in the upcoming season, an aspect that the lead actress has previously criticized is being removed: the love triangle involving her character with Tyler and Xavier.
Jenna Ortega explained, for instance, that the love relationship made no sense to her. The actress even went so far as to slightly change her lines because she didn’t like the original script version (via Armchair Expert).
But many fans also couldn’t connect with the love story in the series and found it rather inappropriate in the storyline. Our colleagues at Moviepilot have an article explaining why season 2 of Wednesday doesn’t need a new love story.
Why is there this change now? Jenna Ortega is not only involved as an actress but also as a producer in the 2nd season of Wednesday. This gives her an influence on how her character is further developed. She shares:
“[…] With a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved, I didn’t want her to be misrepresented. So I tried to have as many conversations as possible with the writers. We then decided what works and what doesn’t. […]”
When does season 2 of Wednesday start? The series is expected to return in 2024 on Netflix.
Another actress was also dissatisfied with her script and nearly abandoned the project because of it:
