The series NCIS is currently the third longest scripted TV series of all time. For over 20 years, it has captivated generations of viewers in front of their televisions. For more than twelve years, many fans overlooked that the series featured a father-son duo on camera together.
What kind of series is NCIS? NCIS aka Navy CIS is an American crime series. The focus is on an investigation team from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, stationed in Washington D.C., the capital of the USA.
In each episode, the team investigates various (murder) cases that involve members and relatives of the American Navy. Each season also introduces an overarching storyline that provides the red thread throughout the respective season.

12 long years almost unnoticed: The father-son duo in NCIS
Which father-son duo is it about? It is actually about Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Mark Harmon in seasons 1 to 19. As the main character, his past is repeatedly highlighted.
Between 2008 and 2020, Mark Harmon’s son Sean Harmon stepped into his father’s role several times. He can be seen as a young Gibbs in a total of seven episodes during that time.
In an interview regarding the upcoming new series NCIS: Origins with Hello! Magazine, Mark Harmon discusses his relationship with his son. He specifically addresses how he approaches acting:

In fact, Sean Harmon is not the only family member of the Harmons who made it into the series: Mark Harmon’s wife Pam Dawber took on a guest role in season 18.
What is the current status of NCIS? The 21st season of NCIS is currently airing on American TV. The main cast has been almost completely replaced over the years, with a few cameos from old characters.
In addition, several spin-offs are being actively worked on: In January 2024, NCIS: Origins was announced, which will focus on a young Gibbs. Mark Harmon will return for voice-overs, similar to Jim Parsons in Young Sheldon.
Fans of the characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David can also look forward to their very own spin-off: In NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the two live with their daughter Tali in Paris. However, when Tony’s current employer is attacked, the three begin a flight through Europe.
