Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the new adventure from Naughty Dog. The developer studio is known for its exciting stories like in The Last of Us. In an interview, director and writer Neil Druckmann revealed that the title was inspired by 2 animes.

What could the story be based on? In an interview, Neil Druckmann revealed that the game was inspired by 2 anime classics that also come from the sci-fi genre.
On one hand, they were inspired by the anime film Akira. The film is considered a milestone in anime history, which has influenced many films and series. It is rated 8.0 out of 10 on IMDb.
In Akira, Tokyo is destroyed by a nuclear explosion and rebuilt as Neo-Tokyo. Shotaro Kaneda and Tetsuo Shima are in a gang and engage in fierce street fights. However, when they end up at a military base, one of them develops mysterious powers. Some scenes in the Intergalactic trailer are also seen in Akira, as X user LnL_spark shows.
And the second anime? Cowboy Bebop is such a great sci-fi series that it can even compete with live-action series. It is rated 8.9 / 10 on IMDb. The anime revolves around Spike Spiegel and his team as bounty hunters chasing criminals in space. Earth is uninhabitable, so humanity has spread across several planets.
Here, the inspiration is clearer: Jordan is also a bounty hunter in space. There could possibly be other elements in the story that Naughty Dog has taken from Cowboy Bebop.
