In Elden Ring there are many ways to deceive and defeat other players. However, one player has taken this to a new level. He takes on the role of a cunning NPC and disguises himself as a barrel.
What role was taken on? Anyone who has played one of the many Souls titles from FromSoftware probably knows the name “Patches.” For those hearing the name for the first time: Patches is an NPC and a sly rogue who enjoys deceiving you. He usually tries to lead you to a treasure he cannot retrieve himself, only to throw you off a cliff so he can collect your remains and sell them.
The Reddit user Esbidee created a new character in Elden Ring that looks exactly like Patches. With this new visage, Esbidee goes hunting. He tries to trick unsuspecting players and uses curious means to do so.
Deceive opponents as a barrel and defeat them effortlessly
What happened? Esbidee took his Patches into a mine and infiltrated players there. He chose a perfect spot to deceive his enemies. There he first prepared the scene. The player used a freely hanging beam, which he equipped with rainbow stones.
Now he used the Veil of the Imitator and disguised himself as a barrel to wait for his prey. Esbidee recorded and uploaded the video of the act to Reddit. Here it is:
After Patches transformed, his enemies appeared, approaching the beam unsuspectingly. As the group of three players split up, Esbidee seized his opportunity and shoved the first phantom into the abyss.
Now Patches had to act quickly and transform again with the veil, this time into a campfire. The host of the group, visibly surprised, approached the beam full of rainbow stones, only to be thrown into the abyss by Patches with two shield bashes.
The last phantom recognizes the culprit at the end and can only snap his fingers in disbelief.
The most important item that supported Esbidee here was the Veil of the Imitator. This useful tool allows you to transform into various objects depending on where you are, including barrels, chairs, scaffolding, or even enemy remains.
