The former team-mate and best friend of Kakashi Hatake is one of the greatest and most powerful puppet masters behind the events throughout the entire story.
After saving his teammate and great love Rin together with Kakashi, he is mortally wounded by falling rocks. The very old, but still living Madara Uchiha saves him and heals the young shinobi. As Obito has to watch Kakashi kill Rin, he becomes Madara’s protégé.
Accordingly, Obito carries out his master’s plans: Masked, he attacked Konohagakure to secure the Kyuubi. He kills several ANBU units, unleashes the Nine-Tails on Konoha, and narrowly loses in a duel against the Fourth Hokage, his old master.
Thus, Obito is responsible for the events that turned hero Naruto into an orphan and got the story rolling in the first place. Later, he supports Itachi Uchiha in the extermination of the Uchiha clan.
In his time with Akatsuki
, he initially plays the fool Tobi
, who can’t get anything right. His abilities as a villain and puppeteer only shine through later and he starts manipulating Sasuke for his own benefit.
In preparation for executing his grand plan, he steals Nagato’s Rin’nengan
and presents himself along with Kabuto against the alliance of the villages in the Fourth Shinobi World War. With his new ocular abilities, he unleashes the deceased Jinchuriki
on Naruto and Killer B.
Through his training under Madara and Zetsu, Obito is an incredibly powerful fighter. His Mangekyou-Sharingan
allows him to teleport between dimensions, the Rin’nengan gives him all the abilities of Pain, and he finally makes himself the vessel of the Ten-Tails.

Rank 1: Madara Uchiha

He was during his lifetime the only one who could match Hashirama Senju. He and his brother Izuna were also the first Uchiha to acquire Mangekyou-Sharingan
. After Izuna’s death, Madara had his eyes inserted and thus gained a never-fading, eternal Mangekyou-Sharingan
.
Together with Hashirama Senju, Madara founded the village of Konohagakure. However, Hashirama’s election as the first Hokage and the growing animosities toward Madara from his own ranks made him leave the village behind. In a final great battle in the Valley of the End, the first Hokage defeated Madara and thought he had killed him.
In reality, however, he remained alive. Quietly, he waited for the chance to put his new plans into action. Just before his actual death, he trained Obito as his agent, who was to set the plans in motion in his absence.
During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kabuto Yakushi revives Madara via Edo Tensei
. However, since he is incredibly powerful, Kabuto cannot control him. Even after the summoning by Edo Tensei
is dissolved, Madara’s soul remains bound to his new body, and he is properly revived by Obito using Gedou Rinne Tensei no Jutsu
.
Madara seizes the Bijuu, becomes the new Jinchuriki of the Juubi after Obito, and also steals the still missing Rin’nengan
.
In this new, incredibly powerful form, Madara Uchiha was virtually invincible. Only the sudden appearance of Kaguya prevents him from realizing his plans.
Madara is incredibly patient, just as powerful, and will go over corpses to achieve his goals. He is by far Naruto’s strongest foe.
