Well, that was surprising. Without announcement, Crytek has launched the early access phase of the online shooter Hunt: Showdown.
Do you want to know what Crytek has to add to the online shooter genre? Then Hunt: Showdown is now available as an early access game on Steam. For 29.99 euros, you can purchase access and start playing right away. In Hunt, you go hunting monsters – and other players.
In 1889, somewhere in Louisiana, dark creatures are roaming. In teams, you set out to hunt these beings, and you may also get into conflicts with each other.

Improve your Hunter
Played in groups of a total of ten players in a “campaign” that guides you through four missions. Hunt can also be played as a single-player title. You can even upgrade your character:
- You can improve your “Hunter” through a regular level-up, which gives you more health points and new skills. However, these are lost if the character dies.
- Through the “Bloodline” progression system, you will gain new abilities, equipment and you can unlock new characters, as well as obtain in-game currency.
- Based on Bloodline Prestige, it is possible to reset your Bloodline after rank 100.
- Your progress is recorded based on a leaderboard, through which you compete with other players.

There is still a lot to do
The developers explain that they want to gradually expand the game with new monsters, new weapons, more hunters, more game modes, crafting, and additional maps. In addition, the team responds to player feedback to fix bugs, make optimizations, and implement new features that players want. All of this will take time.
The reviews on Steam are currently mixed. Often, the long loading times are criticized, and the developers still need to significantly improve performance. Furthermore, there are still issues with the servers. Many players praise the gameplay, however.
Even during the alpha, Hunt: Showdown proved to be a very immersive and creepy online game.
