Settings are an important aspect in almost every narrative genre, and it is no different for MMOs. For many players, the setting is one of the decisive features of a game. We want to know which settings appeal to you the most?
Prefer to keep it realistic: Most multiplayer shooters often stay in a modern and realistic setting. Exemplary examples are shooters like PUBG or the “CoD: Modern Warfare” series.

Many players prefer this setting because they can better immerse themselves and identify with it. The genre often also splits into modern and historical games.
Sci-Fi ahead: Future fantasies have been with people since ancient times. There is definitely something cool about zooming from one planet to another in your own spaceship and shooting evil aliens with a laser.

In Sci-Fi settings, technology plays a major role. However, mystical elements are often mixed in, such as the Force in Star Wars or the Light in Destiny.
Fantasy is not always just fantasy: One of the most widespread and simultaneously versatile settings. In addition to the “classic” Tolkien fantasy setting, there are many branches, as developers try to incorporate their own creative ideas into the genre. For example, World of Warcraft differs fundamentally from The Lord of the Rings Online.

Different developers from different countries always have their own vision of fantasy. The fantasy games of Asian developers often differ drastically from those of Western developers. Accordingly, player preferences often differ.
Irie says: I am a hardcore fantasy fan in almost all aspects of the genre. But it also plays an important role for me how interesting a setting is presented by the game.

In Destiny, for example, the whole Sci-Fi-space-magic story about the Traveler immediately hooked me. It was exciting and mysterious. I don’t care for realistic settings at all.
But now it’s your turn: Which setting appeals to you the most? Or do you have no preferences? Tell us!
