Only a few days remain until the launch of WoW Shadowlands. We wanted to know if you are looking forward to the addon, and you quietly answered us.
This is what it was about: The release of WoW Shadowlands on November 24 is approaching, but there has been much criticism of the new addon in the comments under our articles and on Facebook.
We asked you how your anticipation for Shadowlands is. Are you even looking forward to it? Many of you responded.
These are the results: The survey ended today, on November 20, 2020. A total of 921 readers participated. Each could only cast one vote.
The question was “Are you looking forward to WoW Shadowlands?” The distribution of votes is as follows:
- Yes: 62.87%
- No: 18.89%
- Undecided: 18.24%
The overwhelming majority of 62.87% answered clearly with “Yes”. Even though we often read dissatisfaction about Shadowlands and WoW in general in the comments, a large part of MeinMMO readers still seems to be looking forward to the new addon.
With 18.89%, the “No” answer is way behind, but it still represents nearly 1/5 of the participants who are not looking forward to Shadowlands, and 18.24% remain undecided. Some are critical of the announced content and prefer to wait and see what happens after the launch.
Anticipation is there, but it is quite silent
These were the positive voices: Although the response option “Yes” is well ahead in our survey, the comments under the article are rather reserved to negative. Only a few of you have loudly expressed their anticipation on our site. This includes the reader Incursio:
I really look forward to it. The game is finally changing for the better (for me). I also find the pre-event great.
On our WoW page on Facebook, things looked a bit better. The comments there are also strongly mixed, but the positive voices are more represented.
And how! It’s nice to leisurely go through the story and then try raiding again since Cataclysm.

Generally, it seems that the MeinMMO readers who are really excited about Shadowlands keep their enthusiasm to themselves and vote “Yes” without comment.
These were the negative voices: The skepticism and criticism were more pronounced compared to the anticipation. On one hand, there is still criticism of the contents of the new addon, and some users anticipate a lot of bugs, especially at the start.
For example, the Covenants are viewed with suspicion. There are concerns that it will be very difficult to balance them correctly and that players will be forced into certain Covenants:
Somehow, I’m also out of breath. The only thing I was looking forward to was Torghast. It just sounded too good. […] Also, the Maw looks just as terrible as Argus. And then there are the 4 factions next. Which is okay in itself, but apparently disadvantages players who do not join with the right class/spec combo.

On the other hand, a certain WoW fatigue is emerging from your comments, as well as negative experiences from previous addons. Players who were disappointed by Battle for Azeroth or Legion have either completely decided against Shadowlands or want to at least wait and see.

From my perspective, the experiences with BfA prevent any anticipation for Shadowlands. […] I will wait out the first few weeks, and when I am bored in January, I will decide based on the mood in the community whether I will give the Shadowlands a chance.
