While computers games are still mostly played by men, more and more female gamers are joining in. This is also true for online games. However, certain games are frequented by women more than others.
This week, we ask Mein-MMO about online games where female players feel especially comfortable. We also want to know why that is. Certain genres, gameplay modes, and art styles seem to be more attractive to a large portion of female gamers than others. In which games have you seen the most female players, and where do you feel most comfortable as a female gamer?
Female Players – Online RPGs or Online Shooters?
Online RPGs in the fantasy genre like World of Warcraft or The Lord of the Rings Online seem to be quite popular among women. Interestingly, Asian MMOs like Tera or Blade & Soul are as well. And that, despite the fact that these two games often showcase extremely sexualized female characters.
Other genres are less popular among women. Especially in online shooters, the majority of players are male. Particularly striking is the tank action game World of Tanks, which has virtually no female players. On the other hand, there are quite a few women in games like Destiny.
However, there are often more women present than one might realize, as some female gamers do not want excessive attention from male players and therefore do not reveal themselves as women.
Which MMOs are most attractive to women?
Regarding the most popular MMOs among women, we will launch a survey later in the day. First, we want to know from you which games you think are most attractive for women and where you have encountered the most female players. We are also interested in what attracts you as a female player to a particular game and which games you do not like at all.
