While it used to be the usual suspects like Guild Wars and World of Warcraft that kept players hooked, MMO enthusiasts today can choose from a variety of different online games. But today, we want to know from you which MMO got you started.
Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, or even earlier MMOs? Our editorial team agrees that we started our online gaming journeys in the early 2000s. Some Mein-MMO writers even started their MMORPG journeys, quite stereotypically, with the giant World of Warcraft.
However, we want to know which was your first MMO and what memories you associate with that game. What was your very first excursion into the world of online games and what fascinated you about the MMOs?

This is how the editorial team got started
Jürgen’s first MMORPG was the first Guild Wars, which made its debut in 2005. He was fascinated by the fact that the world kept changing while single-player games often came to an end after a few expansions. Games-as-a-Service, anyone!
Many of us started with World of Warcraft, released in 2004. Patrick had only played shooters before WoW and was totally overwhelmed when switching to the RPG. However, he was fascinated by the social aspect, such as raiding with his guild.
Sven was hooked on WoW from day one. He already loved the Warcraft games and couldn’t get enough of World of Warcraft because it was new and cool, and he loved the graphic style. He was especially fascinated by the group activities.
Irie and Micha, on the other hand, started with Ragnarok Online. The MMORPG, which was released in 2004, is based on the Manhwa “Ragnarök” by the Korean artist Lee Myung-Jin. Here you can see a screenshot from 2007 of Micha’s Wizard, who was fully skilled in Int (Intelligence) and Dex (Dexterity) back then. However, Micha added a pinch of Strength so that he could carry more.

So, which was your first MMO? What situations do you still remember fondly or what mistakes did you make in your first online game? Let us know in the comments!
