Ranked in Overwatch – Curse or Blessing?
For almost 3 days now, the ranked mode of Overwatch has been available on the PC version of the game, and players can start completing their placement matches and earn “Competitive Points” to purchase golden weapons. Furthermore, every player now receives a rank in the form of the “Skill Rank”, which provides clarity on how well one performs compared to their teammates and opponents.
So does the new mode make you have fun? After all, everything is a bit more serious here and the matches take longer. Therefore, we want to know from you this week: What do you think of the “Ranked System” in Overwatch?
Cortyn thinks: As I mentioned in my column on the “5 things I love about the ranked mode of Overwatch“: I love the ranked mode. Schuhmann may argue and say “Oh, Cortyn, don’t exaggerate, you love everything you like!”, but the game mode delivers exactly what I expected from it.
Finally, there is a measurable value by which one can compare their skills with others. Finally, it is disclosed who is ranked “how good” by the system. Are the rounds always balanced now? No, sometimes you still get steamrolled or take on that role yourself. But at least you now always know why the Overwatch matchmaker brought the players together.
Additionally, there’s the longer round duration, which I personally like – because I get more XP in one go, and what is better than an experience bar that fills up significantly from just one match?
