MMOs are social games, and you often meet new people. Most are only fleeting acquaintances, but some can become friends, or even partners! Has it ever happened to you that you fell in love with someone in an MMO?
Whether in the guild, in raids, or in well-functioning groups: You always meet new people in MMOs. With some, you get along better than with others, you get to know each other better via whisper chat, and you spend more and more time together in TS.
And eventually, you might think: Hey, why shouldn’t we meet in real life?

The Game as a Stepping Stone for Social Contacts
The fact that you can get closer in MMOs is in the nature of the game. You have fun together, ponder tactics together, and fight against some nasty opponents. In short: You share a common hobby! Therefore, the foundation for a relationship is already laid.
This doesn’t mean you immediately jump on every person you like, but such a shared hobby promotes closeness – if you like each other. It’s clear that you can’t like every group or guild member.

Together We Are Strong
When it comes to meetings in real life, it can happen in various ways:
- During a guild meeting: Perhaps you’ve never really exchanged a word in chat before, but suddenly it clicks when you meet face to face.
- The rendezvous for two: You were already so likable to each other in the game that you took the plunge and arranged a meeting.
- The chance encounter at the game store around the corner: You both reach for the new add-on at the same time and suddenly realize that you happen to belong to the same guild. Admittedly slightly unlikely. But in love, there have always been crazy coincidences!
However it happens: Nothing is impossible.

My Experiences
My old WoW guild brought me some friendships: Through two of the members – fortunately living nearby – I found my long-term friend circle, a very good friend with whom I still exchange ideas despite the distance, and of course my now ex-boyfriend. This relationship lasted for 10 years.
You can actually build good and long-lasting relationships through an MMO. Ultimately, it’s also “just” a hobby like others, and on this basis, a lot can be built upon. Even though everything is virtual at the beginning, it doesn’t have to remain that way.
But what about you? Have you also been able to build close relationships through an MMO? Share your story!
There are so many different types in guilds, there must be something for you!
